CREATIVE COMMUNITY LEAGUE PROJECTS

Artist Mini-Award Program

In offering the Artist Mini-Award, Creative Community League seeks to offset costs incurred in producing art-based projects, exhibits, or fundraisers that raise the awareness of sexual and reproductive health and rights in Louisiana. Awards range from $50 - $500, and are offered on a rolling basis as funds are available. To apply, submit an application at https://bit.ly/3wGe8EG. Applicants will be notified within 10 days if approved.

In 2021, Creative Community League partnered with the Musicians and Culture Coalition of New Orleans (MaCCNO) to distribute $4,000 to New Orleans artists and culture bearers.

Eight mini-grants were awarded to artists Nic Brierre Aziz, Magda Boreysza, J Knoblach, Savannah Claudia Levin, Elizabeth Peak, Melanie Reupke, Jessica Strahan, and José Torres-Tama in 2020. An online exhibit of awardees’ work was hosted by LeMieux Galleries on Artsy.

Artist Rapid Response

Building upon historic and present creative approaches in movement building and our own growing list of pro-choice artists and creators, Creative Community League will facilitate, organize and financially support artist responses to policy threats. Our goal is to build a network of artists and creators curating public art projects that educate and engage the community on important issues.

June Medical Services v. Russo

In a surprise 5-4 decision, the US Supreme Court ruled that a Louisiana law requiring abortion providers to have admitting privileges to local hospitals was unconstitutional.

GOTV Postcards

In fall 2020, Creative Community League engaged Louisiana artists in a Get Out the Vote (GOTV) postcard design contest. New Orleans artist PHENIZEEFM produced the winning design. More than 1200 free postcards were offered to Louisiana organizations and individuals.

Amendment One

In partnership with Project Protest, CCL hosted projection projects in cities across Louisiana during the 2021 Legislative Session to oppose an anti-choice constitutional amendment (Amendment One) and in support of decriminalization of sex work (HB 67).

Roar Into Roe

In January 2022, CCL and Moral Panic hosted "Roar Into Roe" to honor the 49th anniversary of Roe v. Wade, which establishes the right to an abortion. Proceeds from the annual fundraiser benefit the New Orleans Abortion Fund.

Outgaze Film Festival

In partnership with filmmaker and movement artist Meryl Murman, Creative Community League hosted Outgaze Film Festival in 2020 during the Covid-19 pandemic.

Outgaze Film Festival celebrates local and international filmmakers producing films with feminist themes, content and production methods that promote sexual and reproductive freedom, respond to current and ongoing social injustices, or shed light on humanitarian efforts.

A one-year pilot program, Outgaze Film Festival offered 14 films to 423 passholders in 40 different countries. Festival goers watched 239 hours of films and viewed 4 livestream Q&A panel discussions with 10 filmmakers and 4 community partners

Outgaze Film Festival supported artists and filmmakers by asking no application fees and offering cash stipends to filmmakers participating in the festival.
